ANCHORAGE, Alaska — The names of the three people injured, two of them critically, in a head-on Parks Highway collision near Willow Sundayhave been released by Alaska State Troopers.
A Tuesday AST dispatch says troopers responded at about 1:30 p.m. Sunday to Mile 81.2 of the Parks, where a blue 2003 Dodge Dakota pickup truck driven by 58-year-old David J. Ulvestad of Talkeetna had been headed north when it crossed the southbound lane into a pullout rest area, then glanced off a guardrail. The Dakota then collided head-on with a red 2006 Jeep Commander driven by 44-year-old Lisa Ellison of Anchorage.
“Ellison and her passenger, Julie Vogus-Richards, age 39, of Eagle River, were southbound on the Parks Highway and had no chance to avoid the collision,” troopers wrote.
Medics from Houston, Willow and Talkeetna all responded to the scene to extricate and treat the victims. Both Ulvestad and Vogus-Richards were flown by air ambulance to Alaska Regional Hospital in critical condition, while Ellison was driven to Mat-Su Regional Medical Center by ambulance in serious condition.
