Woman Being Tried for Husband's Murder Says He Tortured Her

March 14, 2013|By Rebecca Palsha | Channel 2 News

PALMER, Alaska — Lisa Donlon, on trial in the death of her husband, told a jury in Palmer Thursday that Jason Donlon once tied her hands together, hung her from the ceiling and beat her.

Donlon is on trial for shooting her husband to death in October of 2010. She says she was tortured for several days because he was furious after he found out she had kissed another woman and exchanged intimate text messages with a woman.

“He said, ‘What did I tell you would happen to you if you cheated on me?’” Lisa Donlon told the jury. “I said, ‘Jason, you said you would kill me.’ He said, ‘How you want to go now?’ He said, ‘I’ve got the rope here -- do you want to hang yourself?’ And he pulled out a knife and said, ‘I can slit your throat right now.’”

Donlon said she had left her husband before, but he had found her at a women’s shelter in Anchorage. She told the jury that during the couple’s marriage, Jason had choked her unconscious at least three times, and that she was also worried he would hurt one of the couple’s three young boys.

The couple lived in what's described as a shack or cabin on property belonging to Jason Donlon’s parents. His family has previously testified that no one in the family had ever noticed any abuse or aggressive behavior by Jason.

The prosecution will question Lisa Donlon Friday afternoon.
