Anchorage police are searching for a man they say ripped off an Anchorage woman to the tune of $4,000. Officials say the whole thing started at the Costco on Dimond Boulevard. Police say about two weeks ago, a man was posing as a mobile mechanic in the dimond costco parking lot. He came up to Barbara Anders in the lot, and warned her about some damage to the front end of her car, which she said she has sustained years ago. The man offered to fix the damage at a cost of $80, but then quickly rattled off several other repairs to her car, amounting to $1,400.
