A longtime Chugiak store owner is leaving quite a legacy. Hundreds of items from Art Wallace's estate were auctioned off Saturday afternoon at the Egan Center, with all the proceeds benefiting Alaska's Healing Hearts . The organization helps military members from all branches of the service recover from post war trauma by providing outdoor activities free of charge. "I want everyone out there to understand, and know that we try to make sure that even grandmas' quarters are taken care of," said Healing Hearts organizer Dan  McDowell.  "We want to make sure every donation goes to help the battle weary and battle wounded.

One race was a runaway; the other a cliffhanger. Service's Silas Talbot and Kinsey Loan of Chugiak captured individual victories at Friday's Cook Inlet Conference cross-country skiing championship meet at Kincaid Park.  Talbot won the boys 10K race with a time of 29:41.3, finishing nearly 45 seconds faster than Service teammate Peter Mamrol. Three Cougars placed in the top four.  Loan's victory was much closer. The Chugiak skier clipped Dimond's Marion Woods by just 1.6 seconds for the girls 7.5-kilometer win. South High finished the day atop the team standings with three girls in the top six.  Racing took place on fresh snow, which turned out to be Loan's liking.
