A small experimental plane was forced to crash-land in Chugiak Sunday morning, right on the edge of the Old Glenn Highway, according to Anchorage police. Police say the pilot, Craig Walls, was not injured. Officers on scene say it appears the plane was having engine problems. "It was pefectly in the ditch, the wing wasn't even in the highway. So he did a really good job on his crash landing," said Melody Gilliland who works at the Rural Discount Center, just feet away from where the crash-landing happened.

The Cook Inlet Conference Baseball season is a 10-game sprint that allows little time for a slump. The Service Cougars and South Wolverines have avoided that, and have now also clinched berths in the ASAA tournament with two games to play. Service defeated Dimond, 3-2 on Friday to remain perfect at 8 and 0. After falling behind 2-0 after three innings, the Cougars rallied with two in the fifth to tie the game. Then in the sixth, Trace Woodruff collected the go-ahead RBI single with two outs. Dimond loaded the bases in the top of the seventh, but could not push the tying run across. The Lynx drop to 4 and 4 and fall out of contention.

In Chugiak, fire crews fought a blaze that began at about 6:30 a.m. on the 19000 block of Baidarka St on Sunday. The Chugiak Volunteer Fire Deparment responded to a call of a structure fire and upon arrival found that about 30 percent of the home was engulfed in flames. Chugiak Fire Cheif Tom Reinbolt says no one was in the home at the time because it was undergoing construction. The owner was living in the house next door, which was also threatened by extreme heat of the fire.
