This year’s high-school football quarterfinal contenders, including Palmer and Service, battled through eight games to qualify only to face the brutal truth: if you don't win, your season is over. The Moose drew first blood against the Cougars Saturday, as big fullback David Sorensen pounded the pigskin across the line to put Palmer ahead 7-0. Service was quick to answer, as Michael McCrae just about walked into the endzone as the Cougars trailed 7-6. But McCrae kept up the pressure in the second quarter, bursting through a hole in Palmer’s defenses and bouncing outside for a 10-yard touchdown, taking the lead 13-7.
