The South high school hockey team rallied from a 2-0 deficit after one period to knock off previously unbeaten and defending state 4A champion Dimond, 4-3 on Wednesday night in at a packed Ben Boeke Arena. Trailing 3-2 into the third period, Steven Orizotti scored the tying goal with 2:25 left in regulation and then Tyler Onstott buried the game-winner on the next shift with 1:48 left. The victory snaps Dimond's 39-game winning streak. The Lynx, who ran the table en route to last season's championship, had won every game this year as well. Dimond's last loss came in the semifinals of the 2011 state semifinals to Service. Tyler Andrews had a goal and two assists for the Lynx.

The 4A tournament took a dramatic turn as Dimond gave South its first loss of the tournament in the championship round, 25-16, 25-20, 25-22 to force a decisive tie-breaker game to 30 points. The Lynx also won that final game, 30-27 to earn their fourth state championship in the last five years. Dimond repeated the path it took to claim the Cook Inlet Conference title a week ago. In that tournament, the Lynx also lost to the Wolverines in the finals of the winners bracket, only to claim the title in the championship round.

Before most liquor stores opened for the day on Sunday, a new driver found herself inside of one. A woman driver of a Subaru took out a stop sign and street sign before crashing into the side of Anchorage Wine House on Dimond Boulevard. Store owner Talbot Chang said no employees were in the store at the time of the crash. He said the worst damage is to the building, which he rents, although there is considerable damage to one refrigerator and numerous bottles of alcohol. "Apparently she went to reach for a switch to open the window up and she got distracted," Chang said.
