After Talkeetna musher Melanie Gould, 34, was found Saturday in Cantwell, there are now mixed opinions on whether Gould owes an explanation as to why she disappeared. The search for Gould began more than a week ago after her friends reported she failed to show up to work, and left her dog team unattended. When her truck was found last Saturday off the Denali Highway by an Alaska Wildlife Trooper in a helicopter, Alaska State Troopers joined the search efforts. Troopers called off an extensive three-day search of the area Thursday that involved 25 ground searchers, more than 20 different search dogs, 185 flight hours and four ATVs that covered 400 miles of trails.

A New Hampshire state representative has resigned over disparaging comments he posted on Facebook about Sarah Palin. Democrat Timothy Horrigan posted on his Facebook page that the former Alaska governor would be more dangerous dead. The comments came after Monday's deadly plane crash near Dillingham, where five people died -- including former Sen. Ted Stevens. New Hampshire Gov. John Lynch, a Democrat, thought the comments were inappropriate. “I think the comments are absolutely inappropriate -- they have no place in the public discourse and I find them to be very, very offensive,” Lynch said.

The search for 18-year-old Samantha Koenig is attracting national and international attention. On Tuesday, a producer for cable news channel HLN's "Nancy Grace" show was gathering information from family and friends on the "Help Find Samantha Koenig - Kidnapped in Anchorage, Alaska" Facebook page. While the Anchorage Police Department is asking the public for assistance, officers say some tips that are submitted with good intentions can be distracting from the case -- including several to date from people claiming to be psychics, according to APD spokesperson Lt. Dave Parker.

There are still very few answers about why St. Paul, in the Pribilof Islands, appears to be temporarily without a police force. According to a Tuesday post on the Facebook page for the St. Paul Department of Public Safety, "(T)he police department has temporarily closed due to unanticipated staffing departures. " Alaska State Troopers are taking 911 calls for the small island community, but say the calls they've received so far have not warranted a response. They also say their response time will depend on resources and the weather.

Conservative talk radio host Dan Fagan confirmed he'll be leaving the KFQD station, but has not yet announced his next move. Fagan made the announcement on his Facebook page late Monday night. "The rumors are true. My days hosting a show on KFQD are over. My quitting has nothing to do with management. Dennis Bookey and Joe Campbell treated me great and I enjoyed every year I was on the air there. I doubt I will ever have a more decent, kind, and generous boss than Dennis Bookey.

UAA is planning to deliberately slow down wired Internet connections in campus residence halls and dorms as a way to crack down on illegal downloads and piracy. “We found that over 95 percent of the complaints that we have received have come from one location on the Anchorage campus, and that is our residence halls,” said Rich Whitney, the university's chief information officer. Federal law requires the university to respond to complaints from industry groups, like the Recording Industry Association of America, which tracks illegal downloads and notifies network administrators of violations.
