Ted Stevens wants the charges against him tossed out, claiming the FBI violated his constitutional rights when it questioned members of his congressional staff.  In response to Stevens' request, federal prosecutors have fired back with more allegations against him. Stevens was charged last month with failing to report more than $250,000 in gifts he allegedly received from VECO Corp, a former oil services company based in Anchorage.

The FBI and the Anchorage Police Department returned Tuesday morning to a Turnagain home where Israel Keyes, the suspect arrested and charged with the kidnapping and killing of 18-year-old Samantha Koenig, stayed in Anchorage. FBI Special Agent Eric Gonzalez confirmed that FBI was on location and that APD were assisting with the investigation. The APD crime scene van and investigators with metal detectors were at the home located at the 2400 block of Spurr Ln. The home was raided in March and the FBI seized a storage unit . Keyes remains in federal custody awaiting trial for his alleged connection with the missing barista's death in February earlier this year.

The FBI released a long-awaited note Wednesday which was found in admitted serial killer Israel Keyes' Anchorage jail cell after his Dec. 2 suicide, although it apparently didn't contain any immediate clues to further crimes he may have committed. In a statement accompanying the note, FBI spokesperson Eric Gonzalez says the notes were discovered beneath Keyes' body, soaked in blood. There is no indication as to when the notes were written, but Gonzales says the writings are believed to be Keyes' last.

FBI and Coast Guard investigators want to speak with anyone in Alaska who may have sold, traded or transferred several models of .44-caliber revolver during the last year, in connection with last month's double homicide at a Coast Guard communications station on Kodiak Island. In a press release Tuesday, FBI spokesperson Eric Gonzales mentions three revolver types of interest: Smith and Wesson Models 29 and 629, as well as any .44 magnum Taurus model. The information is being sought in the April 12 shootings of Coast Guardsmen Petty Officer 1st Class James Hopkins and retired Chief Petty Officer Richard Belisle.

Anchorage and the rest of the country's violent crime rate has decreased for the fifth straight year, according to the a new report by the Federal Bureau of Investigation. The FBI released its preliminary Uniform Crime Report on Monday and for most crime Anchorage had minor changes from 2010 to 2011. For a city pushing nearly 300,000, the crime rates reported were: Violent Crime 2010: 2,432 2011: 2,388 Murder 2010: 13 2011: 12 Forcible rape 2010: 264 2011: 283 Robbery 2010: 454 2011: 465 Aggravated assault 2010: 1,701 2011: 1,628 Property crime 2010: 10,214 2011: 9,455 Burglary 2010: 1,223 2011: 1,080 Larceny-theft 2010: 8,178 2011: 7,750 Motor vehicle theft 2010: 813 2011: 625 Arson 2010: 86 2011: 126 The preliminary data is based on information the FBI gathered from 14,009 law enforcement agencies around the United States.

by The Associated Press Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2008 WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Attorneys for Sen. Ted Stevens say the FBI recorded more than 100 of the Republican lawmaker's phone conversations.      Jurors could hear those calls later this month when Stevens stands trial on charges of lying about hundreds of thousands of dollars in home renovations and other gifts he received from an oil contractor.      The FBI did not tap Stevens' phone but did tap several phones belonging to contractors in the case.

Ted Stevens now says the FBI has told him to preserve some of his records as part of the fed's political corruption probe and Stevens has told a Washington D.C. newspaper that he's hired attorneys to represent him as that investigation continues. When Channel 2 caught up with Sen. Stevens in Girdwood last week he didn't want to talk about whether he was under investigation by the feds. "I put out a statement.

by Christine Kim Saturday, January 23, 2010 ANCHORAGE, Alaska -- Anchorage Assembly member Bill Starr is calling on the FBI to investigate a member of the Begich administration over alleged fiscal misrepresentations. Starr's request stems from a report to the Assembly by the city's attorney, Dennis Wheeler. Starr claims that when Mark Begich was mayor the chief financial officer, Sharon Weddleton, misrepresented data regarding the city's fiscal health. According to Starr, Weddleton misled bond rating firm Standard and Poor's in an attempt to get a favorable rating for city bonds.

The FBI is looking for information on two vehicles that may have been involved in the fatal shootings last week of two Coast Guard members on Kodiak Island. FBI spokesperson Darrin Jones says investigators would like to speak with anyone who may have seen the vehicles -- a white 2002 Dodge Ram pickup truck and a blue 2001 Honda CRV - traveling on Rezanof Road, Anton Larson Road, near the State Airport or Coast Guard Communications Station Kodiak anytime on Thursday, April 12 or before noon on Friday, August 13. Agents with the bureau recently searched the home of James Wells, a colleague of Coast Guard Petty Officer 1st Class James Hopkins and retired Chief Petty Officer Richard Belisle.

The leads are coming in across the country, to cities including Seattle, Portland, Chicago and New York, after the FBI requested the public's help in tracking down information about Keyes' travels and possible victims. On Thursday, FBI officials released new details about the weapons Keyes had stashed in New York.

Three people have been reported dead, the youngest victim being an eight-year-old boy, and more than 170 people were injured Monday at the Boston Marathon after two explosions occurred at the finish line. NBC's Chris Pollone reported from Boston Tuesday morning, saying federal, state, and local investigators are still searching for clues to solve who planted the two explosive devices. Pollone reports that the FBI is leading the investigation and evidence collection teams have been brought in from New York.

The FBI is warning Alaskans Tuesday of a new version of an old scam, involving fraudulent text messages on their cellphones claiming that their credit cards have been deactivated. According to a statement from Kevin Donovan, the acting special agent in charge of the FBI in Alaska, the text messages direct people to a phone number with Alaska's 907 area code. A recorded message asks people to leave their 16-digit credit-card numbers and expiration dates, as well as the cards' personal identification numbers and CVV codes.

FBI authorities in Texas are asking for more information on the travels of confessed serial killer Israel Keyes before his Dec. 2 suicide at the Anchorage Jail, saying his rental car may have been stuck in mud during a February visit to the state where he was later arrested. Diego Rodriguez, the special agent in charge of the FBI's Dallas field office, issued a press release Wednesday (PDF) offering more details on Keyes' activities. Investigators believe Keyes' rented blue 2011 Kia Soul, with Texas license plate NCN8 M857, may have become stuck in mud near the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

Just days before serial killer Israel Keyes is laid to rest in Deer Park Washington, many questions still remain unanswered. "We can't say for sure how many victims Keyes has," said FBI Special Agent Jolene Goeden.  "However, based on some things that he has told us, or statements that he has made to us suggests that the number is less than 12, we believe it to be about 11. " It's certainly not a number anyone can confirm for sure. "That's something that only Mr. Keyes knows," Goeden said.

The FBI says Israel Keyes, who has already admitted to three killings, said he had killed at least five additional people as the FBI seeks more information from the public on his activities following his Sunday death in an Anchorage Jail cell. According to an FBI statement released Monday, Keyes, who confessed to killing barista Samantha Koenig and Essex, Vt. couple Bill and Lorraine Currier, is believed to have committed numerous kidnappings and murders across the nation over the course of 11 years, from 2001 until his March arrest in Lufkin, Texas.

Israel Keyes , the man accused with the kidnapping and resulting death of 18 year-old Samantha Koenig, was found dead Sunday morning, according to the Department of Corrections and Alaska State Troopers. Keyes, 34, was awaiting a trial in March for the killing of Koenig, whose body was found in Matanuska Lake under the ice. Karen Loeffler, the U.S. Attorney for Alaska, at a news conference Sunday afternoon said Keyes was found dead in his cell at the Anchorage Jail Sunday morning of an apparent suicide.
