The Alaska Aces defeat the Idaho Steelheads 2-1 in game 2 of their 3 game series at the Sullivan Arena.  In the opening frame, Aces' Dan Kissel found the back of the net, giving Alaska the 1 - 0 advantage.  After a scoreless second period, it was Alaska to strike again.  Nick Mazzolini set up Matt Ambroz, giving Ambroz his first goal of his professional career. The Steelheads were not ready to accept defeat, and answered with a power-play goal from Chad Klassen. The Aces were able to hold off Idaho, even when they pulled the goalie.  Game 3, the series finale, takes place Saturday October 22, 7pm, at the Sullivan Arena.

Watch out of the Idaho Steelheads if the Aces meet them in the Kelly Cup Playoffs.  Idaho beat Alaska for the fourth straight time on Friday, snapping the Aces' nine game winning streak, 4-2.  The Aces other defeats to the Steelheads this season all came in shootouts or overtime. Wes Goldie scored twice for Alaska, giving him 22 goals for the season.  Goldie is now within 11 of tying the ECHL's career record of 368 goals, held by Rod Taylor.  However, Idaho's Jerry Kuhn stopped everything else, made 33 saves, and the Steelheads received the game-winning goal from Jacob Cepis at 6:35 of the third period.  The Steelheads improve to 18-7-3 overall, while the Aces still lead the ECHL at 29-6-5.

The Alaska Aces lost for the sixth time in nine games on Wednesday, falling to the Idaho Steelheads, 3-2 in the ninth contest of Alaska's 11-game road trip.  Nick Mazzolini scored both of the Aces goals to snap a six-game drought, but Alaska never led.  The Aces best chance to tie the game in the final minute was denied by Idaho goaltender Jerry Kuhn, who robbed Wes Goldie at point-blank range. If the Aces win Game 4 of the Western Conference Semifinals Friday night in Boise, they could end the Idaho Steelheads' season. If not, they stick around for Game 5 on Saturday. The Alaska Aces hold a 3-0 lead in the best-of-seven series against the Idaho Steelheads, and have only allowed two goals from Idaho in those three games. However, Idaho's 11 shots on goal to the Aces' four in the third period of Wednesday's Game 3 has the Aces knowing that they need to limit scoring opportunities.
