For the second time in a week, Scott Howes scored for the Aces to snap a scoreless tie against the Ontario Reign -- but this time, it wasn't enough to give Alaska a victory. The Reign's Michael Pelech scored the equalizer 15 seconds after Howes' third-period strike, evening the score 1-1. The game went to overtime, the fourth Aces home game out of five this season to go past regulation. That's where Jeff Corey buried the game-winner for the Reign, 39 seconds into the extra frame.

Having last season's MVP serving the second half of a two-game suspension would not normally be considered the recipe for a team to post a season-high in goals.  Ethan Cox did a pretty good Wes Goldie impression on Friday night. Cox tallied his first professional hat trick, his first three goals of the season as the Aces beat the Ontario Reign, 8-4 to begin a three-game series.  Zach Harrison and Steve Ward each had a goal and an assist for Alaska, while Bryan Miller notched three assists.

The Alaska Aces were on home ice Sunday night at the Sullivan Arena for the final contest of a five-game series against the Ontario Reign, but neither side was able to score until the second period. The Reign was first to sink a puck, as Dusty Collins stuffed home an Eric Doyle shot for a 1-0 lead. That lead doubled in the third period when Reign captain David Walker scored a second goal. A late Aces goal by Wes Goldie wasn’t enough to turn the tide as Alaska fell 2-1, dropping its record to 7-4-1-0.

The Alaska Aces’ resolution for the new year was simply for more of the same, as the hockey squad rode a seven-game winning streak into a confrontation with the Ontario Reign. A first-period scrum broke out in front of the Ontario net, allowing Wes Goldie to come up with a loose puck and sound the horn for a 1-0 Aces lead. Alaska continued to press as Scott Howes batted home a rebound, putting the Aces ahead 3-1. The game still had tension until Goldie tapped home a late empty-netter for a hat trick, making the final score 5-3 as the Aces swept the Reign.

The Alaska Aces streak of 11 straight games earning at least one point was broken Wednesday night in a 3-2 regulation loss to the Ontario Reign.  Alaska took a 2-1 lead early in the third on a goal by Brian Swanson, but the Reign quickly evened things up, getting the game-winning shorthanded goal by Dusty Collins. Scott Howes also buried one for Alaska, his 12th of the season. The Aces, who finished their recent 12-game homestand 10-1-1, played in Ontario to begin a stretch of five games in seven days.

The Alaska Aces moved one step closer towards clinching the regular season conference title and a first round bye in the Kelly Cup playoffs on Tuesday night.  Ironically, they lost a game in doing so. The Las Vegas Wranglers scored three times in less than six minutes in the second period to beat the Aces, 4-2.  The loss prevented the Aces from clinching the number one seed in the ECHL's Western Conference. However, the team chasing Alaska, the Ontario Reign, also lost in a 3-0 decision to the Colorado Eagles.  With only three games remaining, Ontario trails Alaska by four points in the standings.   The Aces fall to 10-3-3 in the last 16 games and can still clinch the first round bye by winning in Bakersfield on Wednesday.  Brian Swanson and Tyson Marsh scored goals for the Aces.  Adam Miller notched a goal and two assists for the Wranglers.
