Alysa Horn and Hanna Johansson combined for 30 points as the #9 UAA women's basketball team took down Montana State-Billings on Thursday, 59-50. The Seawolves, accustomed to blowing out Division II competition, have now won their last two games by single digits to reach 4 and 0 in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference and 13 and 2 overall. Horn scored a game-high 19 points, Johansson led UAA with 10 rebounds, while Kaylie Robison scored 10 points with nine boards. Their contributions were key on a night in which UAA's three starting guards shot a combined 2 for 18. UAA hosts long-time GNAC rival Seattle Pacific on Saturday.

After winning their previous four games by an average of 37 points, the 18th-ranked UAA men's basketball team proved it could win a close game on Thursday night. The Seawolves improved to 4 and 0 in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference and won for the 10th straight time overall, an 80-72 victory at Montana State-Billings. The Yellowjackets gave the Seawolves a contest, pulling to within four points with about two minutes left. Taylor Rohde scored 14 of his 25 points in the second half to lead UAA. Travis Thompson added 16 for the Seawolves, who shot 60 percent from the field.

The 10th-ranked UAA women's basketball team capped off a perfect road trip to Hawaii with a 62-45 rout of St. Xavier, the #13 program in NAIA. The Seawolves are a Division II program. Hanna Johansson led three Seawolves in double figures with 15 points. Gritt Ryder ( 14 points ) and Kaylie Robison ( 11 points ) also hit double figures for UAA, which improves to 10-2 overall. The Seawolves led by only four points at halftime before opening the second half on a 21-4 run. UAA opens the Great Northwest Athletic Conference portion of the schedule Thursday, December 29th at Central Washington.

Colorado College's Michael Boivin scored with 2.8 seconds left in regulation to lift the sixth-ranked Tigers to a 4-3 win over the UAA Seawolves on Saturday night in Colorado Springs. The heartbreaking loss leaves UAA at 3-10-1 in the WCHA entering semester break. The Seawolves led 3-1 in the second period before allowed three unanswered goals. The loss by UAA wasted a two-goal performance from Brett Cameron. Senior Curtis Leinweber ended the series with four points as UAA managed a split of the two-game set.

Abebe Demissie recorded his first double-double as a Seawolf and Kyle Fossman buried a career-high 17 points as UAA opened up a 23-2 first half lead and never looked back in a 95-54 thrashing of Portland Bible College in the AT&T Jamboree. Demissie scored 14 of his 18 points before halftime and added 10 rebounds in UAA's third straight win. The Seawolves face Minot State in Saturday's 7:00 game in the Jamboree. the Beavers fell to UAF on Friday, 83-77 as the Nanooks' Nico Matthews scored 19 points with 6 steals. UAF takes on Portland Bible at 5:00 Saturday.

Colton Lauwers scored 15 points and Abebe Demissie added 14 as the UAA men's basketball team received more than half of its points from reserves in a 76-57 rout of Minot State on Thursday night. The UAA men's basketball team had a sub-par offensive performance in Friday's Great Alaska Shootout consolation game against Dartmouth of the Ivy League. The Seawolves fell, 64-52 and will take on UC Irvine in Saturday's 7th and 8th place game. UAA shot only 33 percent from the field, and went particularly cold in the second half, where it was outscored 39-27. The Seawolves went to the locker room tied with the Big Green at 25 as Travis Thompson scored 11 points in the first half on 4 for 5 shooting.

The UAA men's basketball team will have to settle for a chance at equalling its most wins in a single Great Alaska Shootout. The Seawolves fell to Murray State, 64-62 in Wednesday's opening round of the 2011 tournament. UAA, which won a pair of games in last year's event, will play in the consolation round. Taylor Rohde's 19 points on 7-for-8 shooting led the Seawolves as UAA led at halftime, 24-23. Isaiah Canaan led four Racers in double figures with 19 points. Murray State is one of the favorites to win the Shootout.

Five UAA players scored in double figures and the Seawolves used big runs at the end of the first half and the beginning of the second to blow out Dominican, 91-36 on Friday in the first of two west region games. Brunna Deichmann and Haley Holmstead each scored 13 points for UAA, which started the second half by scoring 18 of the first 20 points. After the weekend, the Seawolves open the Great Alaska Shootout on Wednesday against 7th ranked Miami.

Defending NCAA champion Minnesota-Duluth gave UAA a rude welcome to its new 6,660 seat arena with a 5-0 win to drop the Seawolves to 0-5-0 in the WCHA. The Bulldogs made quick work of the Seawolves, scoring their first two goals 28 seconds apart early in the opening period. UMD led 4-0 at first intermission. Kenny Reiter shut out the Seawolves on 26 saves to help the Bulldogs remain unbeaten in seven straight games. UAA has managed a total of three goals in its five conference games.
