Wasilla ice-cream and coffee shop Little Miller's Ice Cream Express was struck by a pickup truck Monday afternoon that flipped after running a stop sign and clipping another vehicle, injuring three people according to Alaska State Troopers. Troopers say a blue 2006 Dodge Ram pickup was headed east on Seldon Road near its intersection with Bogard Road when it crossed into the oncoming lane, colliding with a green 2001 Mitsubishi sedan driven by Jacob Whipple, 17, of Palmer. AST spokesperson Megan Peters said the pickup truck's driver, Ashley Hilton, and two people inside the building were injured.

by Channel 2 News staff and The Associated Press Monday, May 3, 2010 WASILLA, Alaska -- Alaska State Troopers say two people have been killed in a head-on collision on the Parks Highway in Wasilla. Troopers say a Chevrolet Pacifica, driven by 54-year-old Yolanda Haggard of Chugiak, crossed the center line and hit a Chevrolet Tahoe just after 9 a.m. Monday. The driver of the Tahoe was identified as 42-year-old Angela Johnson of Wasilla. Officials say Haggard died at the scene, and Johnson was pronounced dead at a local hospital.

The winningrunners are in from this weekend’s Palmer Invitational. Boys winner James Osowski of Kodiak broke the tape in 16 minutes, 11 seconds, while small schools winner Andrey Ionashku of Grace turned in a time of 16:23. Girls winner Jenna Ford of Wasilla clocked in at 18:48, and Betsy Winkle of Grace was the small schools winner with her time of 21:33. In terms of teams at the invitational, Grace swept the small schools, while Wasilla took the 4A girls and Kodiak won the 4A boys.

A Wasilla day care center that closed temporarily following the fatal suffocation of a child there is open again. The Alaska Department of Health and Social Services lifted the suspension on Illuminations Child Care Center's license earlier this month. Alaska State Troopers said a Wasilla driver succumbed to his injuries in a single vehicle rollover that happened in January. 61-year-old Walter Marion Davis died over a month after the Jan. 3rd crash that happened near mile 17.5 on the Knik Goose Bay Road. Troopers said Davis drove off the highway when he was traveling with 49-year-old Lloyd Ray Russell and rolled the vehicle one time, ejecting Russell in the crash, as Davis remained in the vehicle. Both were taken to a local hospital and Russell was later treated and released.

No injuries were reported after a pickup truck rear-ended a school bus with 10 students on board in Wasilla Monday afternoon, according to Alaska State Troopers. by Lori Tipton Monday, February 8, 2010 WASILLA, Alaska -- The City of Wasilla has changed the name of its library to the Wasilla Meta Rose Public Library. Back in December, the city council voted to purchase the Meta Rose Square shopping center. The owners offered to sell the building to the city to turn it into the new home for the library, since the current building is too small. The council agreed to purchase Meta Rose Square but did not decide whether to move the library into the building.

A Wasilla man severely injured in an Oct. 17 moose-motorcycle collision died late Monday evening at an Anchorage hospital, according to Alaska State Troopers. A Tuesday AST dispatch says 38-year-old John William Wysong passed away at Providence Alaska Medical Center at about 11:30 p.m. Monday. Alaska Bureau of Highway Patrol troopers responded at about 9:30 p.m. on Oct. 17 to Pond Lilly Street in Wasilla, where Wysong had been headed south on a Honda XR400R motorcycle when a calf moose stepped onto the road and ran into him. Wysong wasn't wearing a helmet, and was flown to Providence with life-threatening injuries.

by Megan Baldino Monday, June 28, 2010 ANCHORAGE, Alaska -- An Anchorage man is being charged with second-degree murder and drunk driving after Alaska State Troopers say he crashed his car in Wasilla, killing his passenger. According to troopers, the accident happened at 4 a.m. Saturday on Vine Road. Troopers say Joseph Tello, 21, was heading south when he rolled his Pontiac Grand Am several times. When officers arrived, they found Tello sitting next to his passenger, 20-year-old Amber Anderson of Anchorage, who had been ejected and was bleeding from her head.
