Alaska State Troopers are investigating an assault in Wasilla that ended with a man being shot and wounded Tuesday evening, in a case suspected to be drug-related. According to a Wednesday AST dispatch troopers were informed of the incident, at the Alcantra Recreational Facility on Seldon Road, shortly after 8:30 p.m. “Investigation revealed that an 18-year-old male was assaulted by four unidentified males before being shot in the leg,” troopers wrote. “The four unidentified males left the area in a small silver car.” While troopers say the wounded man was taken to the Mat-Su Regional Medical Center and is in stable condition, AST spokesperson Megan Peters says he isn't helping investigators.

The Mat-Su Crime Stoppers seek information about two suspects who stole items out a parked vehicle in the Wasilla Wal-Mart parking lot, according to a Crime Stoppers public service announcement. Shortly before midnight on December 27, 2012, Wasilla police investigated a report of theft at the Wal-Mart parking lot in Wasilla. Items valuing more than $1,500 were reported missing: a Blackhawk .44 caliber pistol, a black Toshiba laptop decorated with "OEF" stickers, approximately $200 worth of baby clothing, and a DVD copy of an ultrasound of the victim's unborn child.

Alaska State Troopers arrested 29-year-old Brandi L. Slover around 4:15 p.m. Tuesday for criminal trespassing, stealing a vehicle, and attempting to steal the same vehicle again. Trooper investigation revealed that approximately two days prior to Slover's Tuesday arrest she broke into a motorhome located at a residence off of Meadow Lakes Loop. Inside the RV she found keys to a vehicle on the same property, an Oldsmobile Cutlass, and stole it. The Oldsmobile was recovered and returned to the owner Monday.

Alaska State Troopers say a man who got out of a vehicle near Wasilla Sunday and used a club to hit a hitchhiker, robbing him of his backpack, has been arrested on multiple charges. According to a Monday AST dispatch, the robbery took place at about 1:30 p.m. Sunday on Pittman Road, about half a mile north of its intersection with the Parks Highway. “The victim had been hitchhiking when a vehicle pulled over,” troopers wrote. “A passenger in the vehicle got out and struck the victim with some kind of a club and then took the victim's back pack containing a lap top computer and cash.” AST spokesperson Beth Ipsen says the victim of the robbery sustained minor injuries, declining medical attention at the time.

Downtown Wasilla was hit with a power outage Thursday night affecting about 3,600 people Thursday night but power has been restored, according to the Matanuska Electric Association. MEA spokesperson Kevin Brown says the outage was caused by a mechanical failure at the Herning substation, which was quickly resolved once the problem was identified. A small brush fire threatened structures off Trunk Road in Wasilla, Monday morning after a power-line fell over igniting the fire, according to firefighters. Firefighters from several crews, including the Division of Forestry, BLM, Mat-Su Central, and Palmer responded. Officials say it took firefighters about 45 minutes to enclose the fire, as crews were fighting against 40 mile per hour wind gusts. Firefighters were able to keep the fire to less than an acre, they were cleaning up "hot spots" for almost two hours.

A 15-year-old boy was arrested by Alaska State Troopers Sunday in connection with a series of break-ins at a Mormon church in Wasilla this month that caused an estimated $40,000 in damage. According to a Monday AST dispatch, troopers were initially called shortly before 8:30 a.m. Nov. 2 to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, at 10865 Horizon Dr., for reports of a fire. “Troopers and Central Matsu (Fire Department) responded to the church and it was determined that there was not a fire,” troopers wrote.

Alaska State Troopers say alcohol and controlled substances are believed to have been involved in a three-vehicle crash early Sunday on Knik-Goose Bay Road that left two drivers with minor injuries. A Monday AST dispatch says troopers from Palmer and the Bureau of Highway Patrol responded at 1:07 a.m. Sunday to the scene, at Knik-Goose Bay's intersection with Kathilyn Road. According to troopers, the incident began when a Ford pickup truck headed east on Knik-Goose Bay and driven by 21-year-old Wasilla man Shane Warren started to fishtail.

A Wasilla man severely injured in an Oct. 17 moose-motorcycle collision died late Monday evening at an Anchorage hospital, according to Alaska State Troopers. A Tuesday AST dispatch says 38-year-old John William Wysong passed away at Providence Alaska Medical Center at about 11:30 p.m. Monday. Alaska Bureau of Highway Patrol troopers responded at about 9:30 p.m. on Oct. 17 to Pond Lilly Street in Wasilla, where Wysong had been headed south on a Honda XR400R motorcycle when a calf moose stepped onto the road and ran into him. Wysong wasn't wearing a helmet, and was flown to Providence with life-threatening injuries.

The American Red Cross of Alaska is deploying four volunteers to the East Coast to help deal with the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy. Late last week, the American Red Cross of Alaska sent Katie Bender, a member of their advanced public affairs team, to Washington D.C. and other areas for two weeks. Development Specialist, Laura Spano, said additional volunteers are deploying on Tuesday night and early Wednesday morning from Fairbanks, Wasilla, Homer and Anchorage to help victims of flooding and other storm damage.
