UAA senior goaltender Dusan Sidor made 23 saves and senior forward Jade Portwood scored a goal in the Seawolves' regular season finale, but it wasn't enough as Bemidji state escaped Sullivan Arena with a two-game sweep, 5-4 on Saturday night. UAA finishes league play 5-22-1. Brance Orban scored the tying and winning goals for the Beavers, whose only lead was the final score. Goaltender Dan Bakala picked up the assist on Orban's game winning goal. Jordawn Kwas, Sam Mellor, and Corbin Karl also scored for UAA, which heads to WCHA regular season champion Minnesota for the opening round of the conference playoffs.

Jordan George scored a pair of first period goals, helping Bemidji State hold off UAA, 2-1 in the opener of the final WCHA regular season series for both teams. Andrew Pickering buried UAA's lone goal, the first of his college career. All of the scoring occurred in the opening period. The loss drops UAA to 5-21-1 in league play. The Seawolves also learned of their destination for the first round of the conference playoffs. Last place UAA will travel to Minnesota, which clinched no worse than a share of the WCHA regular season title on Friday night.

In their 33rd attempt, the UAA Seawolves finally earned a victory at St. Cloud State's National Hockey Center on Friday. Eric Scheid buried the game winning goal in overtime, his second goal of the contest, as the Seawolves claimed their fifth WCHA win this season, 3-2 over the Huskies. In a game with odd bounces that went in favor of the opposition, the UAA Seawolves fell to 4-18-1 in the WCHA with a 3-2 setback to the Minnesota State-Mankato Mavericks on Friday night. Matt Bailey and Scott Warner notched power play goals to account for the UAA scoring. Bailey now has three goals in the last two games, but after Warner's tying goal in the third period, the Mavericks received the game-winner form Mike Louwerse on a shot that deflected in the air past Seawolves goaltender Rob Gunderson. The visitors also scored a goal on a slow-moving shot that bounced off a UAA defender. The Seawolves outshot MSU-Mankato, 24-17.

The 15th ranked Denver Pioneers scored four first period goals to lead a 6-3 win over UAA on Saturday night and a series sweep in WCHA play. The loss drops the Seawolves to 3-16-1 in conference action. Ty Loney scored twice for Denver, the third and fifth goals as Denver built a 5-0 lead early in the second period. UAA did manage a spirited comeback, getting goals from Daniel Naslund, Quinn Sproule, and Alex Gellert to climb within two goals at the second intermission. The rally went unanswered in the third, however. The Seawolves remain last in the 12-team WCHA. The sweep boosts Denver all the way into sole possession of third place at 10-5-3 in league play.

Wisconsin scored four even strength goals and Joel Rumpel stopped all 23 shots as the Badgers sent UAA to its 13th WCHA loss in 17 games, 4-0 on Friday night in Madison. The Seawolves have now dropped their last four in a row. Chris Kamal made 18 saves for UAA but received no goal support in a game with few scoring chances and only four combined power plays. Justin Schultz led the Badgers attack with a goal and two assists. Wisconsin improves to 6-9-2 in the WCHA, while UAA drops to 3-13-1.

Coming off a 33-day break between games, the UAA hockey team lost its opening game of the second half of the season, a 6-2 decision to Michigan Tech on Friday. The Seawolves actually struck first, on Derek Docken's first collegiate goal at 2:24 of the opening period. The Huskies went on to lead, 2-1 by intermission and then buried the Seawolves with two goals in the opening 1:38 of the second period to build a 4-1 lead. The loss drops UAA to 3-11-1 in the WCHA, while Michigan Tech improves to 7-7-1 in conference play. Tyler Currier scored UAA's other goal while Dusan Sidor came on in relief of Chris Kamal after the fourth goal and made 13 saves.

Our choice in number eight is a story that will have far-reaching effects to the UAA and UAF hockey programs. A hectic summer of restructuring the conference of college hockey resulted in sweeping changes to long-time powerhouse leagues, leaving both Alaskan teams scrambling to find new members to compete with. The first domino to fall was an anticipated one, as WCHA schools Minnesota and Wisconsin, along with Michigan, Michigan State, and Ohio State of the CCHA, announced their intention to leave their respective leagues and form a Big 10 hockey conference for the 2013-14 school year.

Colorado College's Michael Boivin scored with 2.8 seconds left in regulation to lift the sixth-ranked Tigers to a 4-3 win over the UAA Seawolves on Saturday night in Colorado Springs. The heartbreaking loss leaves UAA at 3-10-1 in the WCHA entering semester break. The Seawolves led 3-1 in the second period before allowed three unanswered goals. The loss by UAA wasted a two-goal performance from Brett Cameron. Senior Curtis Leinweber ended the series with four points as UAA managed a split of the two-game set.

Brendan O'Donnell and Brock Nelson each scored twice to lead the North Dakota Fighting Sioux to their fourth win in five games, a 5-2 victory over UAA on Friday night at Sullivan Arena. The Seawolves had claimed points in three of their previous four games coming into the series opener. North Dakota went 3 for 6 on the power play to improve to 5-6-0 in the WCHA. UAA drops to 2-8-1. Scott Warner and Curtis Leinweber tallied UAA's two goals. Leinweber now has four goals in his last three outings.
