Two weeks after signing last season's top point producer, the Alaska Aces have learned that forward Dan Kissel has instead decided to play professionally in Norway this season. Kissel burst onto the scene after being acquired late in the 200-11 season, scoring a goal in seven of his first 10 games with Alaska and adding 11 points in 13 postseason games. During the 2011-12 campaign, he was arguably the Aces most consistent forward, tying then-teammate Wes Goldie with 35 goals, the second highest total in the ECHL. The Aces still own Kissel's ECHL rights should he opt to return to North America.

One week after locking down their top goal scorer from last season, the Alaska Aces re-sign their 2011-12 leader in assists. Nick Mazzolini, a native of Anchorage, returns to the Aces for next year. Mazzolini put up 21 goals and a team-high 35 assists last season for 56 points, third most on the club behind Dan Kissel and Wes Goldie. His vision of the ice makes him a premier playmaker. Mazzolini has had tough luck in his Aces tenure. He led the club in scoring during the 2009-10 campaign, but then played the following year in Italy while the next group of Aces won the Kelly Cup. Then last season, he was part of the Alaska team that led the league in regular season points before coming up short in the Western Conference Finals against Las Vegas.
